At LG Progress, we partner with councils and public sector organisations to build political and managerial leadership skills and improve services for communities.
With over 20 years’ experience in local government and a trusted network of associates, we support councillors and officers to develop the skills, confidence, and resilience needed to deliver for their communities.
Our training courses, bespoke facilitation, customised and mentoring services offer practical and relevant solutions to the problems local government and the public sector face, with value for money in these difficult times.
LG Progress was set up by wife and husband team, Liz and Michael Green.
Liz has been a councillor for over 20 years and loves local government - all it does to provide for local people and how it's services are key to every resident and business. But life as a councillor is not easy and over the years Liz has realised that for a council to provide excellent services, it needs to support its councillors in leadership skills.
Michael has worked for National Association for Local Councils and has seen the work of town and parish councils, as well in political offices. Now working in the voluntary sector, he sees when the council works well, so does the voluntary sector.
Together we have a desire to ensure that councillors, from the smallest parish to the largest met, have the skills they need to perform their roles, regardless of their political party or independence. The whole of the public and voluntary sector working with local government can achieve so much if we work together.
We offer a range of courses for councillors and through our partners, for council officers.
We work to keep costs down and provide value for money on all our services.

We can design bespoke facilitation services for councils and public sector organisations.
Cost effectiveness is key and we work with associates with particular specialities to increase what we can offer.
Too many good councillors leave due to the pressures - this means training up new people which can be frustrating as well as costly.
Our mentoring service helps councillors to achieve a good work/life/council balance as well as improving their leadership skills
