I call my confidence building workshop "The Confidence of Dorian Gray".
Attendees may arrive wishing they had a portrait in the attic that never revealed self-doubt. They leave realising they can lead without pretending.
A mix of theory and practice in an interactive workshop looking at when and why councillors feel less confident. An open and honest look at what actually is confidence and why it isn't a skillset or attribute and everyone can learn it. Consider how to control, not fully silence, your inner critic and how your recognising your values can help. Finally we'll develop a confidence boosting first aid kit.
It covers:
Agenda for a typical two hour online workshop:
This workshop can be delivered online, in person or hybrid. It is typically 2 hours with a short break, but can be condensed to 90 mins or expanded by including opportunities to share practice sessions.
It can also be adapted to the specific council requirements and attendees, including their level of experience and what roles they undertake at the council. For example, there can be more emphasis on staying calm whilst public speaking for cabinet members.
It is delivered by Liz Green, a very experienced councillor, not a professional therapist. Whilst she suffered from imposter syndrome whilst Council Leader, no one noticed as she masked so well. When it tries to return she knows how to recognise it and stop it in it's path!
This workshop is designed for councillors with a mixture of experience, with each getting different aspects out of it.
It is not a substitute for therapy or professional counselling. It is designed for councillors who feel they are not performing their role as well as they could due to lack of confidence or imposter syndrome.
It is also useful for councillors who want to help colleagues with their confidence, even if they feel ok themselves.
The cost varies depending delivery such as online, in person or hybrid and level of adaptation required. We always offer value for money as we know council's have tight budgets.
As an indication, a 2 hour online workshop, without adaptations, would cost £750, but please contact us for an accurate quote.
"An excellent short course sharing insight and developing confidence in the Councillor role. You may feel all alone with your imposter syndrome but when you get talking to fellow councillors in a safe, private space, you find out it’s everywhere! I thoroughly recommend this course to anyone in local politics who feels that lack of confidence is getting in the way of achieving their goals."

Like the hidden portrait in the attic, confidence has two lives: the one the room sees, and the one we carry privately.
Leadership asks for composure. Human beings experience doubt. The tension between the two is where confidence is formed.
● Public face – the steady voice, the measured contribution, the visible authority
● Private portrait – the self-questioning, the inner critic, the replaying of what was said
When the outer presence and the inner narrative are brought into alignment — not erased, not denied, but understood — confidence stops being performance and becomes substance.
